by Vape Dojo on May 02, 2018

Hello to all! Today at Ellicott City we have collected our personal opinions and knowledge about rebuild-able atomizers, in hopes to teach you something new!

Choosing Your Atty

Now days, the market is flooded with a very large variety of rebuild able atomizers, and choosing the right one can be hard. There a couple key traits to look out for when choosing a new Atty, to help make sure you get something that suits your preferences. First, you should come up with an idea of what type of vape experience you are looking for. Like big clouds? Mouth to lung style? The main variations between competing attys tend to be Airflow, type/size of deck, depth of juice well, and space surrounding coils. Always remember that airflow greatly alters your experience with a vape. Something with slim slots or small holes is going to be a better suit for someone searching for a hotter or denser mouth to lung hit, and something with large open flow is going to support a hefty high wattage build much better. There are many different types of decks on the market that support different styles as well. Like it simple and easy, one coil at a time? Maybe a velocity style deck like the Fishbone RDA would be great. Like Parallel builds? Maybe something with flat posts like the Goon RDA will answer your wishes. Single coil builds? Maybe a nice two-post deck like the Magnet RDA could be perfect. Depth of juice well alters both airflow and the frequency in which you need to saturate your coils. More depth will allow more air to flow underneath the coils, as well as more cotton, thus allowing more juice to be held within. Lastly, the space within or overall size/thickness. A thin top cap that sits real close to the coils is probably going to end up very hot to the touch if used heavily or at high wattage. And of course, always make sure you are getting something that will properly fit on your device with no overhang or lip, if you care about aesthetics.

Beginners Quick Tips for Custom Builds

When making a custom build, there are a few things to remember. Resistance of the coil(s) matters drastically, be sure to acquire an ohm reader or have a device with one built in beforehand just to be on the safe side. Placement of the coil should be very exact, the coil should be floating in place. Also, the wire installation into each port is specific. Make sure to understand the RDA/RTA/RDTA fully before beginning the custom build.

Choosing Your Wire Materia

Different metals have different functions. Kanthal, usually the most popular, is very easy to work with as far as wrapping coils, so it is a pretty good material to pick while first learning how to build your own coils. Compared to Kanthal, Nichrome has a bit quicker ramp up time, and significantly better flavor. If you are looking for an even quicker ramp up time, Nickel wire, or Ni200, is the way to go. Keep in mind that you may only use Nickel wire while running temperature mode on your device. Using a Nickel coil in wattage mode may cause the wire to overheat potentially releasing toxic chemicals. Like Nickel wire, Titanium is only to be used while running temperature mode on your mod. It is a bit more difficult to build with compared to the other metals, but the flavor is the best by far. Last but not least, Stainless Steel wire may be used in both wattage and temperature mode. The flavor is decent with an above average ramp up time. Stainless Steel wire should first be burned at a low wattage before being turned up to avoid hotspots causing the wire to break.
